About the Coffee

This coffee comes from Raro Boda washing station in Uraga, one of the most celebrated coffee-growing areas in Ethiopia’s Guji Zone. Around 257 smallholder farmers contribute cherries to the station, cultivating coffee organically among native forest and natural vegetation at high elevation.

Each farmer tends roughly 2,000 coffee trees, growing a mix of traditional Ethiopian cultivars including Wolisho, Dega and Kurume, alongside disease-resistant selections developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center. The combination of rich biodiversity, altitude and careful processing creates coffees with remarkable clarity and layered complexity.

Raro Boda washing station has recently been upgraded with eco-pulping technology and tiled fermentation tanks, allowing greater precision and cleanliness throughout processing. After depulping, the coffee ferments underwater for 48 hours before being carefully washed and dried on raised beds for around 10 days. During drying, the parchment is regularly sorted and turned by hand to ensure even moisture and consistency.

Quality control at the station is overseen by Medhin Tamiru, an experienced cupper and Ethiopian Cup of Excellence judge, helping maintain the bright, clean profile that has become characteristic of coffees from Raro Boda.

The coffees are exported through Snap Coffee, a producer group deeply invested not only in quality but also in supporting farming communities through infrastructure, education and healthcare initiatives across the region.
