Description

This washed lot comes from Great Rift Coffee, a vertically integrated producer in Nandi County managing every stage of production — from cultivation to export. Founded in 2019, Great Rift farms 300 acres of its own coffee while working closely with 250–300 neighbouring smallholders, supporting them through seedling distribution, agronomy training, and financial access. Their work is helping unlock the potential of Kenya’s North Rift, a region still under-recognised but quietly producing exceptional quality.

Coffee here is grown under indigenous shade trees alongside bees, macadamia, and other crops that support biodiversity and soil health. After careful hand-sorting and flotation, cherries are pulped, washed, and briefly skin-dried to remove surface moisture before spending 10–14 days on raised African beds. Drying is closely managed — turned regularly and protected from rain and harsh sun — before milling and hand-grading at Great Rift’s own facilities.

The result is a cup that feels grounded yet vibrant, with layered sweetness and a composed, modern Kenyan profile.

We chose this coffee for its depth and balance. Rather than sharp intensity, it offers a more rounded expression of Kenyan washed coffee — structured, sweet, and quietly complex. The integration of Ruiru 11 and Batian brings resilience in the field and clarity in the cup, while Great Rift’s end-to-end control ensures consistency and precision throughout.
